Sylvia Megerdichian is known for her imaginative, semi-abstract water media paintings. She has developed a special technique in which she combines and layers conventional watercolor with Caran d’Ache watercolor pencils, collage and/or ink. Recently her work is mostly on canvas combining collage, acrylic, and Caran De Ache pencil.
In 1993, Sylvia founded the Art Box Studio in Upland, California, where she teaches, exhibits her art, and hosts a variety of workshops. She judges local shows, demonstrates her painting technique, and has curated a show for Square I Gallery in Claremont, CA. Sylvia has won numerous First Place and Best of Show awards from a variety of local and regional art shows, and in 2008 received Signature Membership from the National Watercolor Society.
For her artistic endeavors, she has received the City of Upland Certificate of Recognition and the City of Pomona Certificate of Appreciation. Sylvia has exhibited her art at the Ontario Invitational Art Exhibit 2010, is a two year Master Artist for RIMS California Arts Project. She received the UCF Spotlight Award in 2010for “Most Inspirational Artist (Visual Arts),” for her significant contributions significantly to the arts in the community of Upland, California.
Sylvia and her works have been featured repeatedly in Watermedia Focus and Palette magazine. She has been notably featured in publications among, “The Ones to Watch”. Her work resides at the Riverside Art Museum and at Chaffey Community Museum of Art, and in many private and corporate collections. Her work is continually exhibited at Artist Trait Gallery in Claremont, California, and at Art Box Studio in Upland, California.
In 2012, the Chaffey Community Art Association Museum of Art selected Sylvia Megerdichian’s painting, “Connections” to be installed into the permanent collection. As her work and contributions are notable throughout the art community, she was selected as the Artist of the Year 2013 by the Chaffey Community Art Association Museum of Art, the most prestigious award conferred to an artist by the organization.
