Martha Underwood has exhibited her watercolors in many juried shows throughout California and is represented in numerous private collections. She has been included in Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in America in the Millennium.
Underwood graduated from Scripps College, and received her Master’s Degree from Otis Art Institute. She attended Chouinard Art School, University of California, Riverside, and Claremont Graduate School.
Though her primary interest has always been painting, she took time out to pursue the Fiber Arts. She produced many of her own three-dimensional tapestries and designed tapestries which were woven by French artists in Aubusson. Her works were included in book and magazines and are found in collections across the country.
As a versatile artist, she moves into other avenues of art comfortably. In addition to her watercolor endeavors she is also an illustrator. Though she has done a great deal of commercial illustration, she prefers to illustrate children’s books and coloring books.
After teaching Art at Chaffey College for more than twenty years, she retired in 1996. Her time until this year was filled by Board positions on several art organizations. She still teaches workshops and judges shows. When time permits, she continues to paint and travel.
