Artistic Expression, Art Pottery and a Professional Life
When: July 20th to September 9th, 2023
In looking over a selection of my works, you can see the influence of archaeology. It is there in the pictograph like drawings, and some of the vessel forms. As an artist, I am most interested in the creation of beauty. You will not find religious and political messages here. The influence of psychology is less subtle. That influence is most manifest in my use of color and symbolism. I like to use brightly colored glazes that run into and over each other. Sometimes these glazes are flowing around human or animal figures that I have stamped into the pot. Consider fantasizing what is going on in this interaction of color and form as if it were an ink blot test. Many of these pots lend themselves to such free association. There is no absolute meaning to this symbolism. The meaning is what you decide it is. I have tried to present a wide sampling of my work. With two exceptions, the works in this exhibit were made while I was a resident artist at AMOCA.
