Description
Portrait of a Community: Selections from the Chaffey Community Museum of Art
Synopsis
To mark its 80th anniversary as an organization, the Chaffey Community Museum of Art in 2021 published Portrait of a Community: Selections from the Chaffey Community Museum of Art. The book establishes CCMA as the first regional effort to preserve works of art by major contemporary artists living and working in the Pomona Valley in the 1940s forward.
Engagingly written by art historian Dr. Wendy Slatkin, the book presents a biography, an interpretive essay, and a photograph of individual artists whose paintings and sculpture represent the highlights of the collection. The book also includes a history with archival photographs and a look at other local artists who are important to CCMA.
There is no other institution like CCMA in the Pomona Valley and no other books that can be read and enjoyed by both non-specialist readers and a scholarly audience.
